Community Safety Ambassador Training Program

The Ambassador Program was a bilingual Spanish interactive community engagement and leadership development opportunity for up to 60 community members in Imperial, San Bernardino, and Ventura counties.

California Focus Cities

Cal Walks and UC Berkeley’s Safe Transportation Research and Education Center (SafeTREC), in coordination with the California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS), worked to support seven Focus Cities throughout the state to increase pedestrian and bicyclist safety. The seven California Focus Cities were: Fresno, Bakersfield, Los Angeles, San Diego, San Francisco, San Jose, and Santa Ana.

The Focus Cities—including agency staff, local non-profit and community-based organizations, and interested community residents—had access to free resources and technical assistance from Cal Walks and SafeTREC.

Pedestrians Count! Summits (PedsCount!)

At our biennial PedsCount! Summits, we join forces with our partners across the state to lift up our collective successes and to confront the increasing challenges we face while walking, particularly in our low-income communities and communities of color. Each PedsCount! builds upon our previous Summits’ holistic discussions on how to create more just and equitable communities. We recognize the complex and interlocking challenges our communities face, including the housing crisis in all corners of the state, gentrification and anti-displacement, climate change, and aging in place. Our goal is that participants leave with renewed energy and with the tools, research, and strategies for empowerment and successful community-driven change.
